SWORDPLAY GESTURE STUDIES

Yesterday we did a SWORDPLAY DRAWING SESSION with a fencing teacher who normally creates fighting choreographies for drama performances.

(ANIMATIONFX STUDIO, Valentina, Mar 26th 2015, Barcelona)
She designed a posing routine with different action poses of 1, and 2 minutes.

When I finished these quick sketches, I spent 1 minute more to add some finishing touches.

It helps to visualize better the coloured line when I scan it.

GESTURE DRAWING SESSION

Two weeks ago we did a life drawing session with a graceful model who began her posing routine with attractive GESTURE POSES.

(AnimationFX Studio, January 23th 2015, Barcelona)
She played the role of a nymph and created different poses of
1 and 2 MINUTES.

During this time, I normally have time to define some gesture lines and capture the basic shape of the body.

When the model poses for 3 MINUTES, I have enough time to draw the anatomical structure of the body.

For me, this exercise is more connected with anatomy than with gesture.

I like to name all the life studies done in less than 2 minutes GESTURE SKETCHES. If I spent more than 3 minutes, I name them ANATOMY SKETCHES.

ACROYOGA POSES

Some months ago, I went to a yoga centre from my town where
I did different QUICK SKETCHES. Here are a selection of several thumbnails which were sketched during an ACROYOGA class.

This discipline is more dynamic than a traditonal yoga session.

The movement of the bodies and the silhouettes of the COUPLE POSES were very attractive. The place, the music and the people were very nice. I really enjoyed the experience. I´m sure, I will repeat it.

PREPARING GESTURE SESSIONS

Long time ago, I went to a dance shool to draw some DANCE MOVEMENTS.

These GESTURE THUMBNAILS were sketched during a WARM UP routine.

SKETCHING FROM DANCERS is an excellent exercise to develop our MOTION CAPTURE SKILLS.

The following days, I would like to develop some tutorials about GESTURE DRAWING. As I need models with the ability to create attractive DYNAMIC POSES, I did a private session with a dancer to study how to prepare future GESTURE POSING ROUTINES.

(LIFE DRAWING BCN, July 2014, Barcelona)
Here are some 2 MINUTES SKETCHES.

When I finish a 2 minute sketch, I normally spend 1 minute to add some finishing touches.
